Partnering at the site
Every day, miners around the world are tackling tough challenges — like boosting operational efficiency and effectiveness, extending equipment life, increasing productivity, improving safety and lowering costs. These videos featured at MINExpo 2016 showcase Caterpillar customers and Cat dealers who are working side by side, on site, every day — combining their expertise with machines, technologies and solutions that address these challenges. We thank them for sharing their stories.

Shared commitment: Working together toward a common goal
New Hope Group’s Acland coal mine in Queensland, Australia, is a major employer and economic contributor to the region. The mine relies heavily on local suppliers like Cat dealer Hastings Deering to help the mine remain sustainable for the thousands of people who depend on its success.
Certified rebuilds: Delivering multiple lives to Cat equipment
In Sweden’s major mineral region, north of the Arctic Circle, two very different mines face a similar challenge: equipment nearing the end of its lifecycle. At Boliden’s Aitik surface copper mine, a fleet of Cat 793D trucks had reached their maximum hours of machine operation at a time when high availability was crucial.
Caterpillar investment in underground mining
Cat product leaders speak to attendees at MINExpo about Caterpillar’s commitment to the underground mining industry. Caterpillar is making investments in products and technologies, as well as in manufacturing facilities around the world.
Expanding services: Growing to better meet customer needs
When Cat dealer Gecolsa was looking for ways to better serve its mining customers in Colombia, they created a separate dealership dedicated specifically to these operations. RELIANZ Mining Solutions—which took its name from the words reliability and reliance—supports these remote mines in a number of ways.
Finding a way: Working together to get the right equipment underground
The U.S. Gypsum mine in Sperry, Iowa, is more than 620 feet underground and accessible only via shaft, which makes getting equipment in the mine a difficult challenge. When it was time for a new loader, U.S. Gypsum turned to local Cat dealer Altorfer, a long-time partner of its surface operation.
Lowering costs: Finding opportunities through continuous improvement
The Mogalakwena open-pit platinum mine in South Africa is a challenging operation. Extremely difficult digging conditions were taking their toll on the fleet of Cat 6060 and 6090 hydraulic shovels, until a partnership with Cat dealer Barloworld began to turn things around.
A growing partnership: Making a commitment to continuous improvement
The Kumtor gold mine, located in the Kyrgyz Republic. Owned by Canadian company Centerra Gold Inc., the mine is operated by Kumtor Gold Company — a local business with a commitment to employing local citizens and working with local suppliers. That commitment includes Cat dealer Borusan Makina Kazakhstan, which supports the mine’s fleet of Cat loading, hauling and support equipment.
Fleet management: Using data to successfully manage ultra-class trucks
Anglo-American’s Dawson Mine lies in the rich coal country of Central Queensland, Australia. To improve the site’s fleet uptime, Cat dealer Hastings-Deering employed a Condition Monitoring program that has been enabled by Cat Equipment Care Advisor — a web-based tool that combines equipment and application data with real-time analytics, plus the combined expertise of the global dealer network.
Extending component life through contamination control
Eldorado Gold’s Tüprag mine in Turkey is a benchmark gold mine, working to achieve the highest standards in both operations and maintenance. For example, the site has achieved Caterpillar’s 5-Star Contamination Control Certification for its practices both inside and outside the maintenance workshop.
Financing Quebec’s first diamond mine
When Stornoway’s Renard diamond mine began production in July 2016, it made history — not only as the first diamond mine in Quebec, Canada, but also because of the unique way the project was financed.
Working together to get the full benefits of technology
With a focus on continuous improvement, combined with the support of Caterpillar and Cat® dealer WesTrac, Tropicana Gold mine in Western Australia is fully leveraging its Cat MineStar technologies to eliminate waste, increase efficiencies and make significant improvements in all areas of the operation.
Controlling costs through improved efficiency
In order to maintain profitability, Cerrejon looks for ways to control its operating costs and keep productivity high. This effort led the mine to participate in a trial of a new Cat® electric drive truck model, the 794 AC.
Sharing knowledge: Expertise keeps draglines in action
Supporting the largest and most efficient machines in the mining industry takes a unique skillset. And Cat dealers around the world are committed to growing their dragline expertise and making investments in tooling, processes and resources to support these critical pieces of equipment.
Sharing knowledge and training technicians at Antapaccay mine
Cat® dealer technicians help deliver critical machine uptime by providing expert maintenance and repair services. They also provide technical assistance and training for sites that choose to do their own maintenance — like Antapaccay mine in Peru.
Focusing expertise on underground coal
Caterpillar and Cat dealers are committed to supporting longwall mining customers by combining equipment and automation expertise with unparalleled support.
